Khangelani Mhlanga

Founder of Project Imbizo

Khangelani is a Zimbabwean native who came to the US to study Biology. She recently graduated from Ithaca College in NY and started an online project to showcase indigenous rituals and practices from Zimbabwe. She’s passionate about veterinary medicine, public health, and the preservation of Zimbabwean cultures.

More About Khangelani:

In college, Khangelani served as the president of the African Students Association and the Pre-Vet Society. She was also heavily involved with the International Club as an event coordinator.

Khangelani currently works in emergency medicine and wildlife care while working on projects focused on mediating human-wildlife conflict and recording aspects of Zimbabwean cultures.

She is part of the fourth cohort of the BOLD Women’s Leadership Network and a 2022 recipient of the Projects for Peace grant that funded Project Imbizo.

Project Imbizo was inspired by her personal journey to learn more about where she comes from. She hopes to develop this project into a bigger open access digital library for different aspects of indigenous Zimbabwean cultures.
